Gukovo. Debut. Bronze.

29 September 2009
It was the first time the crew of the “JV” team – Grigory Medvedev/ Dmitry Bulgakov – took part in the “Gukovo” rally. And as it is said they “got out of the frying pan into the fire”.

One of the most difficult races in the most difficult conditions – it was a trial and examination for durability of people and equipment. Certainly, in such situation it would be unwise to jump into a whirlpool of struggle for a place on the podium. But a retire of one of the participants of the Renault Logan Cup series during the first section made a chance for the podium a reality.

Now the main matter was to reach the finish. And it was not simple at all in conditions of soaked track and scores of wades. Out of more than three dozens of participants of the Russian Rally Championship only 21 were able to see the finish podium.

They had to drive carefully. A risk to fly away from a slippery track to a steppe or to prime the engine in a wade lied in wait at every meter of 130 speed kilometers of the rally. And their caution proved to be justified. Grigory Medvedev and Dmitry Bulgakov finished in the “Gukovo” rally. In the Renault Logan Cup mono series qualification they became the bronze medalists of the round.

Grigory Medvedev: “The first section was difficult. Along with protracted struggle with dirt we themselves made several mistakes. What a happiness it was when during the second section roads became dry! At last we got our favorite speed rally with fast turns and cascades of jumping points! We saw that Evgeny Meites stopped on the track – practically it meant that he retired – but we were sooner saddened than glad.

Second and third sections were a real pleasure and our times in special stages happened to be not the last in the Championship! Keeping in mind purposes of the team we declared before the first performance in Bologoye rally – participation in every round of the Logan Cup, stability and mileage – I think the bronze in Gukovo is a serious achievement. It is a prize won in honest dispute with strong competitors. It is a pity that they lacked a little bit of sport luck. Also I should note the perfect work of mechanics of the DriveTECH team. Thanks to their labor and directions we were able to keep the car safe and sound. Our result to a great extent is their merit.”
